reloading my Revolver----things I've learned so far
My last post had to do with reloading my Jframe with a speed loader and related my findings on speed vs Bullet shape.
I've gone with the Hornady Critical Defense Ammo due to the pointier shape of the bullet allowing for a faster and deeper drop with them over the Federal premium and another brand I tested. I found the Hornady to be approx one second faster when doing the reload with my eyes closed. My latest loading tool has been the Bianchi Speed Striphttp://thm-a01.yimg.com/image/70ccf62c4ca44c50 These are a rubber base with cutouts that hold the bottom of the Cartridge (Very Securely) in line instead of in a circular pattern of the Cylinder which is the Speed Loaders Geometry. Pros Flat---these are very comfortable in front pocket of jeans or cargo pants. Secure---the bullets will not fall out accidently and do not wiggle around while loading. Cheap----$7.95 for a pair of them------this is especially good if you needed a carrier for the speed loader on your belt. Allow for partial reload---onesy ,twoseys if needed They have the correct space to allow for two bullets to be reloaded simultaniously, while the third bullet clears the side of the cylinder. Cons---Only two Bullets at a time may be loaded. Slower reloads I like them and carry them. I have not experienced needing to reload so it is not my first concern. Doing test at the desk has shown them to be more in line with my natural motions but somewhat slower than the Speed Loader. I have tried them with Federal Premium +P and the Hornady +P and again the Hornady ammunition is faster due to bullet design. So if you carry a Revolver and take some extra Ammunition with you get some of these as a reloading assist. Breast pocket of shirt makes fore a good carry spot-----try that with a speed loader. E-A |

Re: reloading my Revolver----things I've learned so far
I'm not much into the revlover speed-loarder for the speed - but more so for the easy of carry of extra rounds....and they are somewhat fast.....
I mostly have the HKS type.....we keep our house revolvers stored loaded with one extra speed-loader with it. We have small children.....so, we have a couple of those electronic key pad hotel type safes around the house.....with a very easy keystroke pattern we can even open in the dark. I have carry guns handy most of the time were at home. When we leave - we do not want to take the chance of returning home and running into our home guns turned on us by a criminal intruder....so we never have guns and ammo in the house - except in safes... |

Also...if the speed/ease of reloading your revolver is a concern, you can have your local gunsmith chamfer the opening to the chamber/ejection "star". Eliminating sharp edges will make it easier to insert rounds in to the chamber. Sort of like polishing the ramp on a semi-auto pistol's barrel. |
